David Hobby completed more than 10,000 editorial assignments as a staff photojournalist at The Baltimore Sun before leaving to found Strobist.com in 2006.
Strobist has grown to be a leading resource worldwide for photographers interesting in learning about photographic lighting, with millions of photographers having taken its free online courses. In addition to the online training, Hobby has taught in person at dozens of lighting workshops all over the US and around the world.
His recent external projects include The Traveling Photographer (2014) filmed on location around the world, for Lynda.com and founding the Photographer’s Oil Collective (2016) which joins portrait photographers in the west with master oil reproduction painters in the Far East.
Hobby lives in suburban Baltimore with his wife and two children.
